Harmen Ridderbos is known from the Dutch indie scene, especially through the folk band Town of Saints, with whom he toured Germany for many years. His musical journey also led to collaborations with German artists such as HONIG and the American Ian Fisher, with whom he founded the joint project Tour of Tours. With his solo project Weird Youth, he is now taking a new, more personal direction.

On the upcoming debut album Season One, Ridderbos dives deep into the complexity of love. He tells the story of two people who are swept away by their passion, along with all the bad decisions that come with it.

The recordings were made at home on an 8-track cassette recorder, with Ridderbos playing all the instruments himself. From guitar, bass, and drums to piano. The result is a wonderfully rough-edged sound that fits the songs like a glove.

Musically, Weird Youth moves between the honest storytelling of the seventies in the vein of Neil Young and The Band, enriched with a solid dose of 1990s rock. This blend provides the perfect backdrop for Ridderbos’s deeply personal stories. Each song on Season One feels like an old Polaroid snapshot slightly frayed at the edges, yet all the more authentic in what it reveals about the human heart.
