“Sports are the best thing for an effective immune system, and for healthy sleep by the way, better than sex, which I avoid on principle anyway.”
Between workouts and skincare, Monique, who is called Mon, lives in a sphere of utmost perfection. Like her friends, she earns her living through online brand partnerships. At alcohol-free parties, her relationships exhaust themselves in modes of rivalry, envy, and feigned affection. During a shoot for a chocolate start-up, Mon meets a young photographer; it marks the beginning of a series of initially sexual boundary crossings in which Monique’s latent aggression soon breaks out in ever more drastic acts of violence.
In the tradition of the young Bret Easton Ellis, Josefine Rieks writes "Wenn euch das gefällt" always at the limit of the bearable. Her subject is the inexperience of individuals in an increasingly virtual reality, their violent self-fashioning, and their hunger for aliveness.
